EMPLOYMENT AND VOLUNTEER HISTORY
Currently an independent consultant, located in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Performed contract work as a
publications editor on behalf of Chartiers Nature Conservancy from
1998-2003. In a volunteer capacity,
during the decade between 1998-2008, managed conservation projects for
both a local conservancy and a municipality. Designed and maintained websites for two local grassroots
conservation groups and one environmental advocacy organization.
Continuing to maintain the Scott
Conservancy website on a volunteer basis. Conceived and currently maintain an independent site,
www.chartiersgreenway.net,
that tracks progress on and results from publicly
funded conservation projects in the Chartiers Watershed.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Shade Tree Commissioner,
Crafton Borough, PA, March 2000-March 2008

Volunteer position, managed $5,000 - $10,000
annual tree budget, as Chair of the Shade Tree Commission for a local
municipality for eight years.
Designed annual tree planting program of between 10 to 40 2 ˝ “
caliper street and shade trees, supervised tree maintenance and tree
removals and determined outside contract work. Facilitated cooperation
between the borough and local utilities regarding tree issues. Procured
replacement trees under Duquesne Light Company’s “Right Tree-Right
Place” Program. Developed
list of appropriate street trees. Attended
annual training courses. Crafton
is an older Pittsburgh community with many stately old trees.
Proper management of the Tree Commission programs for Crafton Borough
allowed this urban community to improve the quality of its urban forest
and maintain its status as a Tree City USA, a designation from the National Arbor Day
Foundation it has held since 1989, for an additional eight years.

Publications Editor, Chartiers Nature Conservancy, Pittsburgh, PA,

Responsible for reporting on
conservancy events, land acquisitions and environmental projects,
including Evaluation of Mine Discharges from Abandoned Coal Mines
in the Lower Chartiers Creek Watershed and Restoration Plan for
Large Mine Discharges to Lower Chartiers Creek, funded by the
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) thru
Growing Greener. Worked with late project manager John Hamm and
coordinated with project consultants GAI and Hedin Environmental
as they collected and graphed data on discharge sites and
in-stream pollutant concentrations. Continued with the project
after leaving CNC, posting the characterization results and
remediation plans on-line at chartiersgreenway.net/amd.htm

As Secretary of the Steering
Committee for the Rivers Conservation Plan, a DCNR funded study,
managed deliverables from project consultants Skelly & Loy and
advised on mapping parameters and graphic presentation of maps and
data. Successful completion of this plan allowed the
Chartiers Watershed to be listed on Pennsylvania's Rivers
Registry. This listing paved the way for future funding on
projects identified in the plan.

Published 12 to16 page
newsletter 5 to 6 times per year for a local grass roots
conservation group in the Chartiers Watershed. Created and
maintained over 1000 record mailing list database on Microsoft
Excel. Labeled, sorted, bulk mailed average of 400
newsletters per issue and distributed an additional 200 to
libraries, town halls and other venues.

Designed and maintained
website detailing land acquisitions, activities and projects for
the conservancy. Maps and photo-journal layouts on both the
website and in the newsletters were key in recruiting new
membership, including board members.

As Garden Captain, in
conjunction with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, supervised
the planting, maintenance and clean-up of the Parkway Garden on
the Carnegie Interchange of the Parkway West, the major
thoroughfare between downtown Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh
International Airport.
